Extra & Co-Curricular Activities

ASTI lays equal emphasis on extra and co-curricular activities to ignite the young minds in applying themselves beyond the confines of the syllabus. With this aim, a number of extra and co-curricular activities are organized throughout the year.

Induction Day

Induction Day is held to formally welcome the fresh batch of students to the College and to make them feel comfortable and at ease in their new surroundings. The event also provides an opportunity for interaction with the parents. Experts from the academia and the industry are also invited to speak to the fresh batch of students and their parents and apprise them of the demands and prospects of various courses.

Chapters of Professional Bodies

ASTI has formed student chapters of CSI and IETE. These chapters are a reflection of new ideas and technologies. They share the latest information on emerging trends, events and personalities involved in designing and working of technologies. In order to encourage involvement in technical activities and enhance professional competence among budding engineers, the students are actively encouraged to take up memberships in these professional bodies. These student chapters host expert sessions, arrange talks and workshops, which help students in acquiring knowledge and skills on advanced technical subjects.

Annual Technical Fest

A state-level annual tech fest called is held every year where students can display their talents in paper presentations, mini projects, extempore talk, and technical quiz. External experts are especially invited to judge the events. This tech-fest attracts students from various colleges in the state.

Utsav – Annual Day

The College Annual Day Utsav is usually held in February/March where the record of events and achievements of the past year is presented before parents and distinguished guests.

The achievements of students in academics, sports and extra-curricular activities are recognized and rewarded during the Annual Day. A colourful cultural programme is the highlight of Utsav, symbolizing the festive spirit of the occasion.

Engineers' Day

The birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visveswaraiah is celebrated on 15th September as Engineers’ Day. This is an important day for all the faculty and students who are part of the engineering discipline. On this day at Aurora’s Scientific and Technological Institute, exhibitions, presentations, and demos pertaining to each discipline are organized. It is also an opportunity to honour engineers who have excelled in their field.

Teachers' Day

September 5 is celebrated every year as Teachers' Day in honour of Sri Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India and an internationally renowned scholar. The celebrations in our college are handled by students who arrange innovative contests for their teachers. The day concludes with a function where students honour faculty members and put up a cultural programme for their entertainment.

National Science Day

National Science Day is celebrated on February 28 each year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman on 28 February 1928. On this day in our College, programmes and contests on basic sciences related topics are conducted for students.

Festival of Ideas

The College conducts the annual Festival of Ideas, where students are encouraged to generate original ideas and where creative speaking and writing skills are fostered through Book Review, Debate, Elocution, Short Story, and Essay writing competitions.

Literary Forum-Wall Magazine

The students have formed an informal literary forum which has a permanent Wall Magazine to display their literary and artistic creativity. Prizes for notable contributions in poems, sketches, articles, short stories, etc., are also given. A number of students have discovered their latent creativity through this forum.

Sports

ASTI sincerely believes in the dictum – ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’ – and has given importance to sports since its inception. The College has facilities for volleyball, throw ball, tennikoit, badminton, and indoor sports like chess, carroms, and table tennis. A half-matting cricket pitch adds to the sporting look of the College.

The College conducts inter branch/ batch games competitions annually and track & field events are conducted on January 26th every year to commemorate the Republic Day.

Students are encouraged to participate in inter collegiate tournaments and a number of students have represented JNTU teams in handball, hockey, ball badminton, kho kho, etc.

National Service Scheme (NSS) Activities

The primary focus of NSS is on the development of personality of students through community service. The NSS team in ASTI consists of a group of enthusiastic students who through regular activities like tree plantation, blood donation camps, health camps, clean environment drives, etc., develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility, identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving, and utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems. The NSS team has also adopted a nearby village and visit it regularly to conduct various community activities. Through these civic activities students acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes, develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and practise national integration and social harmony.
