B.Com (General)

B.Com – General is a three-year course which imparts theoretical as well as practical knowledge in the field of commerce.

A course which aims at giving a basic understanding of various aspects of commerce and business with an ability to work with various practical dimensions of accounting, law and taxation. Recently computerized accounting management systems and DBMS have been introduced which have made this course most relevant in the changing context of business, commerce and banking.

First Year
First year students would be learning consumer and producer behavior in the context of resource allocation among competitive uses in Business Economics. In Business Organization & Management they would be exposed to the structural realities of managing the business in the modern world. In Financial Accounting they are introduced to basic framework of accounting, preparation of accounts including finalization relating to sole proprietorship etc. In Fundamentals of Computers, the student is taught basic concepts in computers such as different packages in MS office.

Second Year
In second year, students are given and demonstrated with an understanding of technical aspects of Accounting, Taxation, Banking & Insurance, and Business Statistics. Students are helped to grasp theory and ethical perspective relevant to core business decision making areas. Business statistical techniques relating to data analysis and interpretation of data would be imparted to the students.

Third Year
In final year, students learn various issues in Business Law, relating to contracts, sale of goods, Essential Commodities Act, etc. In Corporate Accounting students acquires knowledge of accounting for corporate and statutory corporations like insurance companies, banks etc. As part of Cost & Management Accounting, students get acquainted with the elements of cost and cost ascertainment in different industries and importance of management accounting in managerial decision making. In Auditing, students are trained with various auditing practices that are important in the corporate world. They also learn how to write reports, understand the techniques involved in presenting the professional reports. In Advanced Corporate Accounting, student learns accounting for holding and subsidiary companies, electricity companies, lease accounting etc.

Course Outcome
The student will be able to demonstrate the basic understanding of accounting policies with practical application. They will be able to monitor and access changing accounting procedures and show ongoing theoretical development and exhibit competent and consistent performance in various subjects.

Students get equipped to accept the challenges of the competitive world. They will be able to understand and develop ability to apply the subject matter in various emerging and real life situations such as filing tax returns, statistical applications in business analysis and marketing research.

Students are ready for beginning a career in the corporate world. They are given a strong foundation thus enabling them to pursue a career in taxation. They also learn to prepare cost sheets if necessary in their business. It will be a stepping stone in pursuit of cost accountancy as a profession and will understand the professional ethics. It will help them in choosing auditing as profession.

The students will be able to gauge the standards of performance to be used in making an effective interpretation. In a nutshell, the student becomes a full-fledged management accountant.

Eligibility
Candidates who have passed the Intermediate Public Examination conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education, A.P., or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with any group with aggregate marks prescribed by the university and college are eligible for admission to B.Com.(General) 1 Year Course.
